Welcome to a new devlog for Assembly RTS, the physics-based real-time strategy game!
Hi everyone, this week I've finished working on the assembly screen for the upcoming trailer showcase.
I also added some new 3D models.
Most notably, weapons and hoverpads now affect the speed of the hovercraft.
There is still a lot in store for the assembly. At this point it's in a sufficient state to be showcased in the upcoming trailer. This was my main priority.
New 3D Models
I want to introduce more vehicles and weapons into the game for more variety in the trailer.
Depending on my time schedule I'd also like to rework the buildings to show them off as well.
Structures don't entirely match the overall art style of the project yet.
On top of that I'd also like to improve the in-game UI so that I can include it in some of my screenshots on the Steam page.
Striker
The striker hovercraft is a large, well armored vehicle that can transport lots of troops.

Hopper is a small and fast cheap hovercraft without any redeeming qualities (apart from being dirt cheap).

The autocannon is a new cheap anti-armor option.
Stacking Weapons
While I was working on the 3D models I thought about an idea one of my Discord community members had for the game: Stacking weapons horizontally.
I gave it a try in the Unity editor and it actually works great with the low-poly style!
I think this will make for some interesting vehicle customization tradeoffs.
Stacking primary weapons like this results in
- more weight => slower speed
- more fire power for less money than buying multiple hovercraft with a single primary weapon
Using some shader trickery I can place multiple weapons side by side without any visual issues.
Here is another screenshot from my horizontal weapon stacking experiments:
Getting weapon stacking to work properly in the assembly screen and in-game requires some additional coding.
This feature is unlikely to be featured in the first trailer, but its definitely something I want to include later.
Our Amazing Community
This isn't the first time community feedback has had a big impact on the development process of Assembly RTS. Join the Discord to share your ideas and feedback so we can shape the future of this game together!
The game currently sits at over 200 wishlists! (big thank you, by the way)
We need 7000 wishlists to be featured in the 'popular upcoming' tab before launch 👍
